The numbers aren’t entirely accurate, since the site made a temporary move to Squarespace and failed to re-install the Google Analytics tracking code for about a good month (oops). Regardless, traffic took a big hit. Last year the numbers were 1M visits from 926K unique visitors with 3.8M page views.

Old School is a movie about three guys who decided to relive their carefree college years. While some critics considered Old School to be humor that’s below the belt, to me it was an amazing frat-school comedy that was provided some great laughs from the start of the film til the end. It’s my personal favorite comedy of all-time and I’ve seen it 7 or 8 times. Today, I wanted to take a closer look at each of the stars of Old School (thanks to some digging on iMDb) oldschool movie 2003 Comedy Hit Old School Where Are They Now?to see what they’ve been up to since.

Luke Wilson (Mitch Martin) – Since Old School, Wilson has appeared in several movies including Charlies Angels: Full Throttle, AnchorMan: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Blades of Glory, 3:10 to Yuma and has a role in the TV Series Enlightened. In all, Wilson has been involved in 22 TV and Movie projects since Old School. We’ll see Wilson in two movies in 2012 in Meeting Evil and Straight A’s.

Will Ferrell (Frank Ricard) – Ferrell’s been a busy man since Old School. He’s starred in Elf, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Starsky & Hutch, Wedding Crashers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Blades of Glory, Semi-Pro, Step Brothers, TV Series Eastbound and Down, The Other Guys, MegaMind and a total of 53 TV and Movie Projects, video clips on his Funny or Die comedy channel, etc. He has a few movies that should be arriving in 2012 in Casa de mi Padre, Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie and Dog Fight.


Vince Vaughn (Bernard “Beanie” Campbell) – Vaughn has since appeared in Starsky and Hutch, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Wedding Crashers, The Break-Up, Couples Retreat and a few other notables. In all, he’s had 20 projects since Old School. In 2012, we’ll see Vaughn in Lay the Favorite and Neighborhood Watch.

Jeremy Piven (Dean Gordon “Cheese” Pritchard) – Since his role in Old School, Piven has appeared in titles like Scary Movie 3, Cars, The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard and most notably as Ari Gold in the TV Series Entourage. He’s had a total of 21 projects since. His latest movies are The Pirates! Band of Misfits (filming) and Sound of Mind (pre-production).

Ellen Pompeo (Nicole) – Pompeo has only had a handful of projects, due to her pushing all other opportunities aside as star of TV Series Grey’s Anatomy. She has appeared in all 155 episodes of the hit series.

Juliette Lewis (Heidi) – Lewis appeared in Cold Creek Manor, Starsky and Hutch, Catch & Release, Due Date and other projects since playing Heidi in Old School. She’s been in a total of 22 projects, mostly with bit parts. She’s currently in filming with TV Series The Firm and in pre-production for the movie Blood or Water.

Leah Remini (Lara Campbell) – Remini has found success in television. She’s had a starring role in Kings of Queen (which ran a total of 206 episodes) and her current show The Talk, which has aired 75 episodes thus far. She’s also appeared in a few TV Movies along the way.

Perrey Reeves (Marissa Jones) – Reeves has been busy putting up with Ari Gold in her Entourage role (73 episodes), but has managed to play a role in American Dreamz along with several guest appearances in TV shows like CSI Miami, Medium, Grey’s Anatomy, Rules of Engagement, Castle, etc.

Craig Kilborn (Mark) – Kilborn is known for his hosting role The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn (524 total episodes). However, he’s had roles in The Shaggy Dog, The Benchwarmers and a few other projects since Old School. He appeared in an episode of Chuck this year, but doesn’t currently have any upcoming projects.

Elisha Cuthbert (Darcie) – Cuthbert has found success primarily in television since Old School. She’s had roles in movies like The Girl Next Door, House of Wax and is most notably known for her role as Jack Bauer’s daughter in 24 (79 episodes). Her current TV Show, Happy Endings has aired 19 episodes thus far. Cuthbert has also appeared in the 24 video game. In all, she’s had 16 projects since Old School. She’s currently in pre-production for the upcoming movie Dark Star Hallow.

Seann William Scott (Peppers) – Scott is most known for his role as Stifler in the American Pie flicks, but has appeared in several other movies like The Rundown, The Dukes of Hazard, Ice Age: Meltdown (and the video game), Mr. Woodcock, Role Models, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, etc. He’s had 20 projects since Old School was in theaters.  He’s been busy as of late with American Pie: Reunion (post-production), Movie 43 (post production) and Ice Age: Continental Draft (post-production).


Matt Walsh (Walsh) – Walsh is the king of bit parts and he’s been in a ton of them. From Bad Santa, Starsky & Hutch, Arrested Development (1 episode), School for Scoundrels, Be Kind Rewind, Semi-Pro, Step Brothers, Role Models, I Love You, Man, The Hangover, Reno 911 (4 episodes), Due Date and many more. He’s been in a whopping 64 different projects since Old School. He’s currently working on movies Free Samples (post-production), Movie 43 (post production) and the TV Series Veep (filming).

The Dan Band (themselves) – The Dan Band is known for their role as wedding band during Frank’s wedding. The Dan Band is going strong and is currently on tour.

There was also a guest appearance from Andy Dick and other smaller roles, most notably  Terry O-Quinn (now known for John Locke in TV Series Lost).

Thanks to the technological advancements of the iPad, the amazing iOS 5 update, the Apple TV and some amazing applications, you have a pretty impressive alternative to the inflated cable bill in your hands.

Let’s take a look at video mirroring and some of the apps that you’re going to love projected on your big screen television.

Video Mirroring

Equipment: Video Mirroring only works with the iPhone 4GS and iPad 2. You have two options to make your television mirror what’s on your iPad 2 or iPhone 4GS.  To wirelessly stream what’s on your device, you can get an Apple TV for $99 (my current setup). The other option is to hook your device up to your TV with an Apple Digital AV Adapter, which will run you $39. It’s more flexible and works with any television that has a HDMI input.

Once you have your AV Adapter hooked up, just switch your TV’s source to the appropriate HDMI.

If you are Video Mirroring wirelessly to your Apple TV, you’ll need to activate video mirroring. To activate Just double-click the Home button, swipe all the way to the right, and select AirPlay Mirroring.

Load Up Your Device With Movie and TV Streaming Apps

Here are the best apps I’ve found to stream movies, television and videos to your device. Also included with the apps is whether they support the wireless video mirroring. While you’ll get audio and video on your television, the apps that are iOS 5-ready with full video mirroring fully expands to your TV screen and lets your iPad work as a remote control for the video.

Subscription-based TV & Movie Streaming

The listing below consists of sources that don’t require Cable or Satellite to unlock, but does have a monthly fee to use.  While you may wince at the $16 from Netflix and Hulu Plus, the combination provides a significant amount of great content and is ideal for the cable cutters. 

Netflix (free on the App Store, but $7.99 per month paid subscription) – the movie solution to cutting cable. Fully supports video mirroring.

Hulu Plus (free on the App Store, but $7.99 per month subscription) – ABC and NBC offer the last five or six new episodes free, but Hulu Plus fills in with complete seasons for most shows. Works with audio and video, but doesn’t fully expand to your television screen (black box around the screen).

No login or subscription required, but a few of the apps below add a few more features if you setup a free account.

Crackle (free on the App Store) – Stream movies and tv shows with Crackle. Works with video and audio, but doesn’t expand to full television screen (black box).

PBS – (free on the App Store) – Fully supports video mirroring and works great.

ABC Player (free on the App Store) – New shows and great content to stream. Audio and video works, but can’t yet expand to your full television screen (black box).

NBC (free on the App Store) – New shows and great content to stream. Audio and video works, but can’t yet expand to your full television screen (black box).

FilmOn (free on the App Store) - Fully supports video mirroring and unlike others on the list offers live streaming sports.

Movies By Flixster (free on the App Store) – Great app to find movie reviews and watch trailers. Sound and video work, but doesn’t expand to the full television screen (black box around video).

Moviefone Movies For iPad (free on the App Store) – Moviefone is the best place to stream and watch movie trailers with video mirroring. It’s fully compatible with video mirroring and streams trailers in HD.

MTV.com/touch – visit MTV.com/touch from Safari. It fully supports video mirroring from their site, but selection of clips is a bit limiting.

 

Vevo HD (free on the App Store) – fully supports video mirroring and works great! This is the best way to watch live and official music videos.

Apps That Don’t Support Video Mirroring Or Require Subscription

Of the apps I’ve tried, here are the ones that either want a cable or satellite login or just doesn’t yet support Video Mirroring.

Newsy – Great app for watching news, but doesn’t yet support video mirroring. You only get the video, but no audio.

Trailers – How can Apple’s brand new app not fully support video mirroring and fail to offer sound when playing movie trailers?

HBO to GO not only requires a subscription, but doesn’t yet offer video mirroring.

MAX GO – see HBO to GO

TBS – you’ll need a subscription, but once you login video mirroring isn’t supported so no sound for you.

TNT – See TBS

Discovery – So you get sound on commercials, but not shows. Hopefully an iOS 5 update will be pushed out soon.

Note:  There are several different devices and applications to use, but I chose to share the ones that have worked the best for me. Just last month, I had a DirecTv Bill that cost me $140 per month and another $60 for cable internet. $200 a month is a ridiculous bill to have with all the free alternatives available. I kept my cable internet and now only pay $17 per month for movies and tv shows using the options below.

Devices To Hookup To Your Television

Roku XD|S ($99.99)

Though I have both a Roku and Apple TV, there is no way I would have cut my cable without Roku. This device requires a high speed wireless connection. It connects directly to your television and streams content to your television from countless channels that include Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon On Demand, Pandora, Flickr and more. While you won’t find YouTube in the channel lineup for the Roku player, you can manually add this awesome channel using these simple setup steps. You could get by with the Roku alone, but let me show you some more options.

Computer & Free Media Software

I keep my laptop connected to my television using a HDMI cable. You would be amazed to see how many of your favorite shows are available for free online. I am a big Survivor fan and can simply go to CBS.com the day after Survivor airs to stream the newest episode. With my computer connected to my television, it’s just like watching it on TV.

Roku cost me $100 to purchase and there is no monthly or additional fees. Some of the channels available requires a pay subscription to use. I pay $9 per month to stream movies from Netflix and $8 each month to stream television shows. If I can’t find content on either of these channels, my next option is to see if it’s online.

You can turn your computer into a media server by downloading some pretty awesome free applications such as Windows Media Center or XBMC. Windows Media Center has an Internet TV window channel does the work for you by finding great shows from online sources.

If it’s not online and it’s a show or movie I really want to see, I can pay to rent it from the Amazon On Demand channel. An episode typically cost $1.99.

Antenna

Want to still get free local channels? By using the AntennaWeb tool, you can see what the ideal Antenna would be for you to purchase. Based on my area, once I have my Antenna set up, I should get more than 20 channels (including HD) free. My Antenna cost $35 from Amazon.

Want to Stream More Free Movies And Television?

While I could provide an exhaustive listing of free movie and tv sites, I’m going to instead point you to an amazing resource. OVGuide shows you all the best free movie sites and by using the useful search button, you can find movies and television shows you want to watch.

A Last Resort

If you decide you just can’t cut the cord on your cable or satellite, at least take some time and search online for better deals than you’ll get through Best Buy or over the phone. Many third party service providers like TvByDirect.com offer local specials that include free channels. While not as cost effective as going full-streaming, you can definitely cut a large portion of your bill.

3. From your Roku, access your Channel Store, then exit to refresh

Note: if you get an “insufficient space error” message, you’ll need to remove a few channels to free up enough space. You’ll also know when you’ve freed up enough space as your YouTube Channel will load.

That’s it! Now you can enjoy another channel that illustrates just how awesome the Roku device is.

This week, I asked “what is the best cable/satellite TV alternative?” With new and exciting gadgets launching such as Apple TV, Google TV, Boxee Box and more, there is no all-in-one solution yet which makes it’s a challenge to determine which to use or whether to wait. I discussed these options in my weekly posting at madTREEHOUSE.

In this economy, our cable bill is one of the few bills that continually rise as cable companies are beginning to price themselves out of our living rooms.

The results were overwhelmingly in favor of using home PCs as the alternative, but let’s take a closer look.

What’s the best cable/satellite TV alternative?

CableTVAlternatives Poll Results: Sorry Apple & Google TV, Home PC is Preferred Cable TV Alternative

Over 43% of respondents would choose their home computer to take the place of their cable or satellite service. Finishing in a distant second, 17% preferred Google TV even though all the major networks are blocking their content from Google TV. Over 13% liked their XBox 360 as an alternative, while approximately 9% would rather use the Boxee Box.

Perhaps the most shocking results in my opinion was the lack of interest in the Apple TV, Roku, Playstation 3 and Wii, which never garnered nearly the amount of votes the big three had.

I use this app for both movie times and the Rotten Tomatoes ratings.
