I had to bring back one of my favorite posts for all my readers, since I know many missed it first time around. This is a compilation of 20 of the crazies moments caught on tape during concerts and live performances. This post was originally published last August.
A few years back, I remember watching the 100 Most Metal Moments on VH1 and found their selection to be underwhelming. There’s been many moments taped during live concerts that have been uncomfortable, entertaining and at times shocking. I hope you enjoy 20 of the absolute craziest moments caught on tape.

1. Hells Angels Attack Rolling Stones Fans
In 1969, The Rolling Stones were headlining the Altamont Speedway Free Festival. They hired the Hell’s Angels for security that night. That decision led to one of the greatest concert disasters in the history of music. The Hell’s Angels used pool cues and beer cans to attack the fans and the night was full of violence. They beat an 18 year old black man (who had a gun and a knife) to death, attacked many other fans and three other people eventually died that night; two who were trampled as they were asleep in their sleeping bags and the other drowned.
2. Police Prevent Rage Against the Machine from Performing
Just recently, a concert in the Capital Lawn which was originally headlined by Anti-Flag, took a major turn when Anti-Flag announced to the crowd to stick around for something crazy! Rage Against the Machine, who were unscheduled were going to perform. State troopers argued with the band as fans chanted “Let them Play.” Unable to play, lead singer Zach de la Rocha and Tom Morella used a bullhorn to play an acapella version of “Killing in the Name.” De la Rocha, Tom Morello and the crowd of 2,000 to 3,000 people marched along Cedar Street to downtown.
3. Axl Rose incites a Riot in St. Louis
In 1991, Axl Rose and his band Guns and Roses were performing at a concert just outside of St. Louis. During their performance, Axl spotted a fan taking pictures and jumped into the crowd to grab a camera and attack the fan. Once he returned to the stage, the band stormed off the stage, citing poor security. A riot ensued and Axl was later charged with inciting the riot.
4. Joe Rogan owns Carlos Mencia
In February 2007, a video was released of Carlos Mencia performing at L.A.’s Comedy Store. During his performance, he called Joe Rogan on stage. For years, Rogan had been criticizing Mencia for stealing other comedian’s jokes. A verbal battle ensued and here is the clip of the confrontation.
5. Tool’s Maynard uses Brazilian Jui Jitsu to Fight Off Fan & Continues Singing
I wasn’t able to find details or comments from the band for this particular video, but a fan jumped on the stage while Tool was performing. As he approached the lead singer Maynard proceeded to whip the fan to the ground, take his back and get him in a rear-naked choke while never missing a beat singing his song. Amazing!
