Today, I went to see Paranormal Activity and though I knew it would be an enjoyable movie, I was blown away! The movie is unique, low-budget and very effective as you feel your watching a real couple in a normal home, curious to see what’s haunting them. The closest comparison I could make would be the feeling I had while watching the Blair Witch Project on opening day when I and other viewers thought the events were real. Here’s 10 more reasons you should watch this film.
10. Paranormal Activity is presented through a home video camera by a couple trying to see what’s haunting them while they sleep
9. Filmed using a hand-held video camera, Oren Peli shot the film in just 7 days with no formal film training
8. While sleeping, you’re at your most vulnerable point and unable to control what’s occurring
7. The movie had a $15,000 budget, but has grossed $20.2 Million already
6. Ever had someone watch you while you sleep…..for several hours at a time?
5. One of the creepiest endings to a film I’ve personally seen (an ending suggested by Steven Spielberg)
4. A day after viewing the film, Steven Spielberg allegedly returned the DVD in a garbage bag because he thought the DVD was “haunted”
3. According to Spielberg, minutes after he viewed the film, his bedroom doors “locked by themselves” and he couldn’t get out without calling a locksmith.
2. Screen writers were invited to view the screening, but several walked out of the theater because they were frightened by the film
1. In September, the movie was released to a limited audience at 12 theaters, but the sold out theaters and 1 million requests pushed the movie to be released nationwide October 16th. The buzz this movie has generated was for a reason.
Leaving a movie with cold chills doesn’t happen to me often. In fact, I can’t recall the last time a movie gave me cold chills on multiple occasions, including the ending. In fact, after watching the previews below, the memory of the scenes and movie gave me more chills. I can think of about a dozen creepy moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. Of those dozen, four of those scenes really messed with my head. I couldn’t recommend this film more and wanted to do my part to help spread the word for this amazing and unique movie. Go see this movie and you’ll get 90 minutes of suspense for your money.
