As many of you share my disdain for the official Facebook App, I’ve been exploring other Facebook BlackBerry Apps to replace the Facebook App that leaves much to be desired. Though there is a new Facebook App being created, it’s not yet available. Rather than settling for the current Facebook BlackBerry App, I’ve found two other Free BlackBerry Apps that integrate quite well with Facebook.
First up is Snaptu 1.2.3, a very cool social networking BlackBerry Application that not only gives you Facebook functionality, but serves as a RSS reader for your favorite blogs, Twitter integration, catch the current weather, check out movie times, Flickr, Picasa and more.
With Snaptu, you have the ability to update your Facebook status, your inbox, view your list of friends, view your friends comments, profile, photos and all the standard messaging functionality. The App is very smooth and navigates from page to page very quickly. My favorite thing about this App is that it combines the RSS reader with Twitter and Facebook. I don’t typically use the other applications built into this social networking App, but each application is well made and can be useful.
SocialScope Light is another impressive alternative to the Official BlackBerry App for Facebook. Currently in private beta, this social networking application combines Twitter and Facebook into one. When you provide status updates, you type in your status update, then specify Facebook, Twitter or both for where you want to update your status.
I really like how you can simply click on one of the top icons to get either your messages, mentions, direct messages, Twitter feed or your Facebook feed without ever leaving the application. This application is in beta, but I’d like to see some added functionality to view either your profile or other users profiles and pics without getting redirected to the mobile webpage, where you need to login again.
What do you think about these two alternatives? Any features you like, dislike or would like to see added? I’ve replaced the official Facebook BlackBerry App with both of these applications. For me, Snaptu has replaced Viigo for the RSS reader and the Facebook App has a little more functionality than Social Scope. However, Social Scope compliments Snaptu quite well. It was tough for me to choose between the two, so I decided to use them both.
