If you’ve been following the site, you may notice that I’ve posted about iPhone Apps on several occasions. I’ve been asked “how can you post about iPhone Apps when you don’t have an iPhone?” I believe I have the best of both worlds with a Blackberry Storm and an iPod Touch, which is my favorite toy. With the Storm, I get the reliable Verizon service and the great 3G network. The iPod Touch utilizes Wifi, but serves as my living room internet connection and mp3/movie player on the go. I also have quite a bit of fun with the Apps.
I’m sure you’ve heard about the new iPhone 3.0 and it’s added features, but if you’re like me and don’t want to switch to AT&T, the iPhone Touch may be a nice alternative. You get access to all the Apps and other great things the iPhone offers, minus the telephone service.
Recently, Apple made the 3.0 iPod Touch Software Upgrade Available. It’s a one time fee of $10, but really improves upon the iPod Touch. Below is a summary of added features you’ll get with the upgrade.
- Download movies, TV shows, music videos, and audiobooks over Wi-Fi from the iTunes Store on iPod touch.
- Listen to music wirelessly with the new Bluetooth compatibilityShake your iPod Touch to shuffle the songs.
- New Peer-to-Peer gaming to play against others
- Large Landscape keyboard in Mail, Notes and Safari.
- Spotlight Search lets you search your entire iPod, including your contacts, mail, music, calendar, etc.
- Copy and Paste. Finally, you can copy images, text or links and paste them in other applications.
- Faster Safari performance
- Sync your Notes with your Mac or PC
If you already have the iPod Touch, I highly recommend the 3.0 Ugrade if you have an extra $10 to spend. My favorite new feature is the added ability to rent or purchase movies and tv shows through my Wifi device. I also love the copy and paste feature, which is long overdue. It’s a little tricky, but you just have to get the hand of it and try it a few times. The best way I could show you is with a video I found that demonstrates how it works. Hope this helps.
